A Bit About Our Home
There was
a young boy cleaning the counter at a local candy store in Downtown
Brooklyn. He was the son of an Italian immigrant, just a skinny
kid who possessed a great personality and a wonderful smile. He
was 15 and had already been working for 3 years as a shoeshine boy
and a candy store clerk. One day after graduating from Brooklyn
Boys High School, one of his regular customers stopped by to indulge
in his cravings and partake of a chocolate malt. This gentleman,
who worked at the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, had formed a friendship
with the young man and suggested that his talents and gift of gab
would be better served elsewhere. He knew of a job opening in the
Title Insurance industry and quickly set up an interview for the
young man. Off to the Home Title this young lad went packing only
his intelligence, demeanor, and that outstanding smile. He got the
job as a clerk and quickly worked his way through the ranks into
sales - and the rest is history.
That was
64 years ago and that young boy has never stopped smiling. Over
twenty-five years ago with the help of his family and friends, he
decided to put everything he had on the line and opened his own
company, appropriately named Home Abstract. The doors opened November
12, 1977 with a staff of five, including his wife Virginia, his
son Robert, and his sister Grace and over the years it has grown
to be the largest in Brooklyn employing 42 people. In 1977 there
were a total of 4 abstract companies in Brooklyn - today there are
over 75. The company and the industry have undergone tremendous
changes over that period of time but one constant has always prevailed,
that being the will to provide the best quality and service possible
to our clients. That was Nunzio's secret 64 years ago, and it remains
the company's foundation today. Every client is treated as a person
and not a number and each person becomes a family member and friend.
Nunzio was the first generation building the business, Robert became
the second generation keeping and expanding the business, and Mark,
Joe & Greg are now the third generation concentrating on the
future. Three generation of different opinions, different mind sets,
and different attitudes all working together to make one company
successful.
Today we
have the latest in computer technology, a new office and a new look,
but we have learned that it's not the system you have installed
that makes you better, but the people you have feeding the information
into that system, and it's staff that gives that extra effort to
close the deal. It's a team sport and believe me over the years
we have found that the only way to play the game is to work together.
We feel
we have the best staff in the industry comprised of 38 professionals
including 2 attorneys. Eighty percent of our people have been with
Home Abstract for over 10 years and Larry Samaris, Hal Siver, and
Tommy McKenzie, Jr. have been with us for over 20 years. With a
little help from the seniors on our staff, the 3rd generation is
evolving and building the company to suit your future needs, but
through it all on constant always remains - that enormous, undaunting
smile. Not bad for 14 year old shoeshine boy from Prospect Street
named Nunzio.
We would
like to thank our clients for the years of friendship, loyalty,
and camaraderie and for making us what we are today.
From all of Us to You -
THANKS!
